Coming this October, Movie Night in the Park is back. Lounge on the lawn of Liberty Park the first Friday of the month to enjoy a free family movie.

The Rob Phillips Tournament originally scheduled for Oct. 1 has been rescheduled for Oct. 22.

The captain’s meeting will be Oct. 21 at Crump’s Landing at 6 p.m. and then the tournament on Oct. 22 starts at 7 a.m. with a weigh-in at 5 p.m.

The 21st Annual Chili Cook Off, hosted by Lecanto Levi’s 4H club, will be on Oct. 8 and 9 at Nature’s Resort in Homosassa with gates opening to the public at 10 a.m. and chili tastings to start at noon.

There will be basket raffles, 50/50 drawing, vendors, music, dessert auction and more.

Proceeds from the Chili Cook Off are donated back to Citrus County Charities: Citrus Aid Cancer Foundation, Citrus Anti-Drug Coalition, Citrus County Blessings, and Lecanto Levi’s 4-H Club for their Santa for Seniors program and to sponsor families for the holidays.

A comedy show just for women who are 18-plus in age is slated for Saturday, Oct. 29, with the doors opening at 3:30 p.m. and the show kicking off at 4:30 p.m.

This PG-13 show will be at 320 N. Citrus Ave. in Crystal River, bayside, at the Crystal River Woman’s Club.

There will be a 50/50 drawing, raffles and live and silent auctions as well.

This annual fundraiser for the GFWC Crystal River Woman’s Club is to raise funds for local charities and scholarships.

Three top comedic women will be performing in different acts portraying clean fun for all to enjoy. Tickets are $20 per person. Donations and sponsors are also being accepted to help raise funds for the event.

The annual Crystal River Scarecrow Festival will be Saturday, Oct. 8, in the downtown historical Heritage Village from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Heritage Village is at 657 N. Citrus Ave. and is lined with quaint shops and eateries that will be open for the public to enjoy.

This is a popular free, fun-filled festival that is geared for the entire family and has been a family favorite over the years.

There will be food trucks, games for the kids to play, pony rides, inflatables, costume contests and a petting zoo. For the adults, there will be artists and crafters, beer and wine available for purchase, nonprofit organizations with booths of information and fall photo-op spots.

D.J. Dusty will be on hand during the festival and there will also be live music by Sarah Diamond and the Soul Miners from noon to 2 p.m.

And for those who love pumpkins, the famous “Pumpkin Patch” will be on the grounds for purchase of delightful-looking pumpkins in all shapes and sizes.

This festival is always a fun day for everyone of all ages.

The Citrus Community Concert Choir has started rehearsals for the winter session, titled “Noel.” Rehearsals are on Saturdays at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian of Inverness, 206 Washington Ave., Inverness.

The Second Sunday Sunset Drum Circle will be held at Fort Island Gulf Beach, 16000 W. Fort Island Trail, Crystal River, on Oct. 9 at 5 p.m. (for this month only). Meet at the last picnic shelter.

On Oct. 15, local author and poet KD Gates and others will host “Indie Verse—A Celebration of Young Voices” from 6-8 p.m. in Liberty Park by the pavilion, 286 N. Apopka Ave, Inverness. Registration is at 5 p.m.

This creative event will give youths ages 14-21 an opportunity to express themselves creatively via poetry, spoken word, clean rap, or speech. The goal for this event is to propel youths to see life through words rather than a screen, and poetry is the catalyst to do just that.

Participants will present their piece(s) on stage before the community and, once finished, will have an opportunity to win one of the raffle prizes: one of two $100 Amazon gift cards, one of two $25 Wawa gas cards, or one Universal of Orlando prize pack.

Refreshments will be available for purchase. This event is a free community event and all donations will benefit the Citrus County Education Foundation and COLC Youth Department.

The Inverness Brewers Union is bringing back Oktoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 3-7 p.m. All proceeds go to support homeless veterans at Citrus County’s only veterans shelter operated by The Bridge 4 Veterans, Inc.

To help veterans in need, come for limitless samplings of craft beers, wines and ciders provided by over 30 local brewers and live band music by Taking Anderson. Food will be sold separately at food trucks.

A new small exhibit at the Floral City Heritage Museum will introduce visitors to the cow hunter industry of central Florida during the Annual Citrus County Alzheimer’s Walk Aware on Saturday, Oct. 15.

Come celebrate where everyone’s a winner at the 34th Annual West Kiwanis Field Day on Friday, Oct. 21, at Crystal River High School.

This event brings together more than 300 intellectual and developmentally disabled children and adults from the Citrus County community to compete in various athletic events.

The event will begin with the traditional Parade of Athletes at 10:30 a.m., followed by a ceremonial torch run.

The athletic events will quickly follow the Opening Ceremony and continue through the morning, both on the field and inside the school gym. This event is open to the public and admission is free.

Knights of Columbus Council 6168 is seeking participants for its 27th annual Father Willie Memorial Golf Tournament on Oct. 29 on the Oaks Course of the Citrus Hills Golf and Country Club.

Tournament organizers will welcome anyone who wants to play, men and women.

This year’s tournament entry fee is $65 per person. It includes beverages on the course, greens and cart fees, lunch in the clubhouse, and prizes.

This will be the second year they have enjoyed the children and their parents in our community, visiting their secure parking lot with the veterans and their families for the children to trick-or-treat.

The Inverness Elks Lodge 2522 will be open to the public over the weekend of Nov. 4 and 5.

The Old Courthouse Heritage Museum offers free family programming on the first and third Saturday of the month.

Fun with Fruit will give children and families an opportunity to make healthy, locally sourced snacks while learning about the importance of Citrus fruit to Florida.

A “smoothie bike” will be on-site as well. Pedal the bike to mix and blend your own fruit smoothie. Activity is recommended for children ages five and up.

Citrus Hills Cycling Club, in conjunction with Bike Florida, announces the 2022 Black Diamond Invitational Car Show Ride on Sat., Oct. 22, beginning at 8 a.m. at the County Road 486 Lecanto Trailhead Park adjacent to Wendy’s, located at 2832 W. Norvell Bryant Highway, Lecanto.

The car show is an annual tradition and showcases very outstanding vehicles by invitation only.

There is a $5 charge for adults to attend the show, which opens at 10 a.m. They plan to arrive by 9 a.m. and ride through the community for an hour before the show opens. There is no charge to ride, only to attend the car show after the ride.

This annual ride is one of the largest held by the Citrus Hills Cycling Club and the club is hoping for its largest turnout ever this year.

On Oct. 15, the VFW Post 4337 is hosting a BBQ Cook-off Fundraiser.

Come out to compete with other grillers or to sample great barbecue. The event’s proceeds go to supply guide dogs for veterans.

Point of Woods Card Club has been hosting games for more than a decade and is now seeking new members.

Singles are welcome and will be matched to a partner. Members don’t need to know conventions. They talk to each other to understand the game better. For those who know basic bridge, they will help to learn duplicate.

Join the Sunshine Poets’ monthly meeting and poetry reading at 10 a.m. on the last Thursday of each month at the Central Ridge Library in Beverly Hills.

Attendees are welcome to bring poems to share, or just listen. If you would like the members to critique your poems, bring several copies on which they can write suggestions. Attendees are also welcome to join the group afterward for lunch at a local restaurant.

The Hernando Area Senior Program is hosting free ukulele classes with Joy Wilson at noon on Tuesdays at 2415 N. Florida Ave. in Hernando. All skill levels are welcome.

Citrus Bridge Club has face-to-face games at 1 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday in the Tree Top Plaza, 1647 W. Gulf-to-Lake Highway in Lecanto.

Ruby Life Master Mike Swartz offers a series of beginner lessons from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursdays. While geared toward the beginner player, current bridge players will also find Swartz’s lessons are a good refresher.

In an effort to keep all participants safe, proof of vaccination will be required for the regular games and for Swartz’s lessons. Masks are recommended but optional.

A limited number of players can join Inverness Bridge Club free to play either duplicate or party/rubber bridge at noon, Mondays and Fridays.
