The RAK Energy Summit concluded on Wednesday at the Al Hamra International Exhibition and Conference Centre in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, after two days of dialogue that helped shape the global conversation on climate change and the future of energy sustainability, bringing together high-profile Policymakers, speakers and experts from the UAE, the region and around the world.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, the two-day summit included panel discussions and debates on energy sustainability and the future of renewable energy, illuminating local as well as curb Climate change and international efforts to shape a better future.

The meeting invited high-level speakers such as Sharif Alama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs of the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, and Munther Mohammed bin Shekar Al Zaabi, Director General of Ras Al Khaimah.

The second day was held in the presence of Sheikha Amneh bint Saud Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Ras Al Khaimah Office of Investment and Development, with a speech by Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment.

“The RAK Energy Summit, featuring energy efficiency and renewable energy as the main topic of discussion, is an important step in our response to the challenge of global climate change – the greatest threat to humanity. Almheiri applauds the role of the RAK Energy Summit as one of the leading platforms bringing together senior officials, experts and policymakers in the energy sector to exchange knowledge and expertise, and work together to find innovative solutions to support climate efforts and help shape A better sustainable future.

On behalf of the Director General of the Ras Al Khaimah Department of Public Service (PSD) Khaled Fadel Al Ali, Eng. In his closing remarks, Oussama Al Natour, Executive Director of the RAK Waste Authority, said: “Among the various topics discussed at the summit, one important message stood out – climate change is urgent and only everyone can work together to address it. The City of Ras Al Khaimah has launched a new industrial energy audit program to help local industries identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency and competitiveness. Future Architectural Glass, Eternity Technologies and Falcon Technologies, RAK Ceramics, RAK Rock/Stevin Rock, RAK Ports and Union Cement are the first companies to participate in the initiative by signing an agreement with the municipality at the summit.

Gauri Singh, Deputy Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), said: “Ras Al Khaimah’s ambitious energy targets to 2040 will require a high level of cross-sectoral collaboration. The RAK Energy Summit can Play an important convening role, bringing key players together, coordinating efforts and fostering meaningful dialogue.”

On the second day of the summit, RAK Court, RAK Public Prosecution, RAK Civil Aviation, RAK Chamber of Commerce and Ras Al Khaimah Ruler Court also issued ISO 50001:2018 compliant certificates in recognition of their efforts in implementing energy management systems.

The agenda includes additional keynote presentations from government and industry leaders and is sponsored by Siemens, Enova, EESL, EDF, Luceco, Sun Money, CleanMax, Pactive Solutions, Ledvance, Terraco, Netix and Teknoware.

The summit was hosted by the city of Ras Al Khaimah, with the support of the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Masdar and the More than 10 government entities in Seahorse.

The summit concluded with a networking reception held by various directors-generals of Ras Al Khaimah government entities and chief executives of the emirate’s state-owned enterprises, where they met with some of the private sector representatives participating in the event.
