Next to Normal explores how a suburban family copes with crisis and mental illness. Dad was an architect; Mom hurriedly packed lunch and poured cereal; their daughter and son were bright, bright teens who looked like a typical American family. Their lives were anything but normal, however, as the mother had been battling manic depression for 16 years. Next to Normal brings viewers into the mind and heart of each character, presenting their family stories with love, compassion and heart.
