Art: Country and city art

“Common ground,” Sean LeCrone’s paintings of local rural and urban scenes will be on view Friday at a reception at the Art Group Gallery in Downtown Pleasant Ridge, 11525 Cantrell Road, Little Rock, from 5-8pm. “Flash” Exhibition

“Cultural Elements” 16 paintings by Little Rock artist Shakeelah Rahmaan, a member of the staff at the Southeastern Arkansas Arts and Science Center, hosting a reception today at The ARTSpace on Main at 623 S. Main, 4:30-6:30 pm St, Pine Bluff. The exhibit, which runs through November 1, depicts elements in Rahman’s background that represent her experiences and narratives as a black woman, including hair, street dance, pop culture and hip-hop. A series of wood sculptures by Sandra Sell, abstract paintings by Donnie Copeland and landscape photographs taken by Robbie Brindley while traveling in New Mexico will be on view Friday at the Spa Gallery Walk Reception from 5-9pm Justus Art Gallery, 827A Central Street, Hot Springs. music: Texarkana kick off

Cellist Zul Bailey Help the Texarkana Symphony open its season of masterworks with a solo on Camille Saint-Saëns’ “Concerto No. 1” in minor key Saturday at 7 p.m. The show also includes Erich Korngold’s “Captain Blood” overture and Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade”. The show will feature two pieces for two pianists – Sabrina Shivley and Sherry Mashburn on “Slavic Tale” by David Karp and Kathryn Coleman, and Kristin Duckworth on “The Moldau” from “Ma vlast” by Bedrich Smetana. Soprano Katie Howell will join pianist Janine Tiner on the American folk song “How Can I Keep from Singing” and “Der Holle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen,” an aria from the Queen of the Night, “Der Holle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen.” From “The Magic Flute” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Plays Friday at 10am and Saturday at 2pm at the University of Central Arkansas Reynolds Auditorium, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway. Spencer’s work focuses on using magical arts to transform the lives of children with autism, developmental disabilities, intellectual challenges, emotional behavioral disorders, and trauma. The one-hour program is marked for children and adults with sensory sensitivities and developmental or intellectual disabilities. Admission is $10, children are $5. literature: Beckett Conference

Lyon Academy will host a “Samuel Beckett and Nature” Friday through Saturday at the academy location at Heifer International Headquarters at 1 World Avenue in Little Rock. Scholars will focus on nature, the environment, and “all associated disasters in and around Beckett’s work,” according to the release. This is the 2020 sister conference at Trinity College Dublin on the theme “Beckert and the Anthropocene”. Co-hosts are the Irish Consulate General and the French Embassy at Villa Albertina.

The session will feature two keynote speakers – Jean-Michel Rabate of the University of Pennsylvania at 3:30 p.m. Friday and Stanley Gontarski of Florida State University Speech on Saturday at 4pm.

Lyon alumnus Kendra Bell will direct and perform Beckett’s short play “Cascando” at 7pm on Friday; a short film “Beckert in the Baltic” directed and screened by Gontarski will be screened Saturday at 3.15pm .

Works by Franz Schubert and Ludwig van Beethoven A recital in relation to works by Beckett will be Friday at 7pm at the Brown Chapel, Lyon Academy Batesville Campus (2300 Highland Road) The Bevins Music Room, Saturday at 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 723 Center Street, Little Rock, followed by a reception.

ETC. : military vehicle

The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History at 503 East Ninth Street in Little Rock hosts the annual vintage military car show, on Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm, jeeps and other military vehicles are on the parade ground behind the museum. The event also includes live history re-enacters and free hot dogs from WoodmenLife, and free ice cream from Blue Bell Creameries. Central Arkansas Water will distribute the water. Admission is free. friendship celebration

Friendship Community Care marks 50 years of service to people with disabilities in Arkansas “50 Years of Friendship” Festival, Saturday noon to 4 p.m. at Bishop’s Park, 6401 Bryant Boone Road. The event will include food trucks, local vendors, a silent auction, bounce house and photo booth, as well as musical performances by blues band Gil Franklin and Ben Brenner as well as blues band TBJ and Friends, guitarist Jason Burnett and Americana-Southern rock band Sam Allbright . Southern heat. The Corvette Club of Central Arkansas will offer a “Trunk or Treat” and ride around the festival grounds. audition: “Titanic” Musical

Benton’s Royals to hold auditions “Titanic – The Musical” (Music and lyrics by Maury Yeston, book by Peter Stone) October 15th 2-5pm and October 16th 2-4pm at Birch Tree Communities, 1502 Mary Kay Lane, Benton. Auditions are open to teens and adults 16 and older of all genders, races and ethnicities. There are no child roles, but there is an opportunity for a male teen about 14 years old and a boy about 8-10 years old to audition later. Singing is required for all characters; there is a main dance number, featured duets and other required.
