Joy of Afghan refugees reunited with pet bird in Abu Dhabi

An Afghan refugee was overjoyed when she was reunited with her pet myna bird in the UAE after more than a year.

In August 2021, after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, Alia, 18, fled to Abu Dhabi without giving her real name to protect her family.

She brought her pet starling Juji evacuation flew to the UAE, but was forced to leave the bird when she and her family moved to France.

But when the French ambassador to the UAE, Xavier Chatel, adopted the bird, Juji found a new home.

On Wednesday night, Alia finally saw Juji again at Mr. Chatel’s residence.

“I’m so happy. I can’t believe I finally met him,” Arya told Nationwide.

“I miss him so much. I miss him every day.

“But I’m glad he’s safe and has a home. I thank the French ambassador for everything he’s done for me and my bird.”

Alia said Juji recognized her immediately, and when she brought her face close to the cage, she started screaming and pecking, whispering, “Juji, Juji!”

“He hasn’t forgotten me. I think he’s happy,” she said.

Mr. Chatel, he is United Arab Emirates It’s over, first tweeting the story last year and saying that myna – a bird known for its ability to mimic – has become the embassy’s mascot and has even learned to say “Hello!”

He said Alia was invited to Abu Dhabi so she could see her pet bird in good health and being cared for.

“She misses Juji so much. I keep sending her videos of the bird, but I hope she will be reunited with the bird before I leave Abu Dhabi,” Mr Chatel said.

“I want to assure her that this bird will be treated well even if I’m not here.”

Alia must visit Abu Dhabi because Juji cannot be brought to France, he said.

“I tried many times, but the bird is considered an invasive species in France and under no circumstances can go there. Now, this is Juji’s home,” he said.

Recalling the tragic experience of leaving Kabul, Arya said it was the “most depressing day” of her life.

“Sometimes, I think. I’m scared. Depressed. I feel sad,” she said.

She said she somehow managed to smuggle the bird onto a plane amid the chaos at Kabul International Airport, where thousands were trying to escape the Taliban.

“I kept holding him. There was no way I could keep him in Kabul. He was my baby,” she said.

“One day, I hope I can go back to Afghanistan with Juji as well.”

Arya says she is studying French and plans to go to college.

“France is nice and safe, but I miss my home,” she said.

“I feel sorry for my country, for all the women. I want them to be free. It’s the best for everyone.”
