Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) today announced the creation of its first LED virtual production stage, at Sony Innovation Studio in Culver City.
LED Virtual Production has changed the way film and television are produced, and the new stage is the largest in the world using Sony’s high-brightness and wide-gamut Crystal LED display panels.
The panels were created in collaboration with SPE’s top engineers for virtual production.
The establishment of this LED stage enables Sony Innovation Studios (SIS) to extend its virtual production workflow to a variety of entertainment platforms and seamlessly merge the real and virtual worlds through its Atom View technology and proprietary stage integration software.
First conceived in 2018, the team hopes to push entertainment technology further than ever.
Masaki Nakayama, Senior Vice President and Head of Sony Innovation Studios, said: “Our new LED stage is a milestone in further advancing our technology. The combination of lifelike visuals and an intuitive virtual production workflow allows creators to focus on creating new way to tell impactful stories.”
Tony Vinciquerra, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment, said: “Virtual production is revolutionizing the way we make movies and TV. By leveraging virtual production technology in SPE, we are giving content creators the tools necessary to make more fully realize their vision.”
Kenichiro Yoshida, President and CEO of Sony Group Corporation, added: “Sony is a creative entertainment company with a solid technological foundation. Virtual production is one of the key areas where we can provide new value and support creators in unleashing their creativity through the power of technology. “
