Pebbles, the world’s oldest dog, died of natural causes five months before turning 23 earlier this week, according to a Guinness World Records release. A toy fox terrier Pebble has died in Taylors, South Carolina, in the presence of loved ones.

Pebbles was born on March 28, 2000 in Long Island, New York, as a pet to Bobby and Julie Gregory. Following Pebbles’ death, Julie Gregory said: “Pebbles lived a happy and long life. That was the queen of the family. Pebbles died in 2017 with his late partner Rocky at the age of 16, giving birth in three separate litters. 32 puppies.”

“She’s enjoying country music and being loved every day,” Julie Gregory further said.

The fact that he is the oldest dog in the world was discovered in a rather interesting way. When Julie Gregory’s friends heard about a dog on the news, it was Tobby Keith, the eldest at the time, and they immediately called the Gregory family to tell them about it.

Julie Gregory said: “Bobby sat on the couch and friends and family started texting and calling about what they had seen about a 21-year-old dog getting records.”

“When I saw the Toby Keith story on the news, I applied,” she added.
