ITC launches key phase of smart transport in Abu Dhabi Islands

The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipal and Transport (DMT) has launched the second phase of the smart transport project on Yas Island and Saadiyat Island.

An ITC statement said the smart mobility project on Yas and Saadiyat islands currently includes a fleet of eight ‘TAXI’ self-driving cars, the UAE’s first fully autonomous self-driving taxis, Launched last May.

In addition to the 15 new charging stations added this month on Yas Island and Saadiyat Island, it also includes four mini-robot buses added to local transport services in June. Automated Rapid Transit (ART) will operate on Yas Island and Saadiyat Island in November.

According to the statement, the ITC project is a partnership between ITC and Bayanat, a G42 company specializing in artificial intelligence-driven geospatial intelligence.

ITC noted that the adoption of knowledge-based and innovation-based sustainable transport solutions to strengthen urban development is part of Abu Dhabi’s Smart Mobility Strategy.

The second phase of the project will kick off in November ahead of the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit, one of the world’s largest sporting and entertainment events, strengthening Abu Dhabi’s role as a major global The status of the sports event organizer.

It said DMT and ITC and their strategic partners in government and the private sector are working towards a smart, integrated and sustainable transport system, striving to realize the aspirations of the leadership and their vision for the future.

Hasan Al Hosani, CEO of Bayanat, said: “The first phase of the Yas Island project has been a great success, reflecting the positive impact of artificial intelligence-enabled spatial and geospatial data on our daily activities and lives.”

“Entering the second phase of the project is a milestone in the digital transformation of Abu Dhabi’s transport sector,” Al Hosani noted.
