Job seekers now have plenty of opportunities to find work in the UAE following a series of new labour and visa reforms introduced by the government over the past few months.

On Friday, the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) updated its rules on employment relationships to provide greater flexibility and remove restrictions on the duration of work contracts.

Under these new amendments, employment contracts must cover a defined period that can be renewed by agreement between the parties to the contractual relationship. The law does not set a cap on that period.

This will protect both parties in a balanced manner, promote growth and stability in the labour market, and enhance the UAE’s economic competitiveness.

The new form allows companies to increase headcount to meet growing manpower needs. It is estimated that around 70% of UAE employers plan to hire new employees next year, while around 50% of companies planning to hire in the next three months will be hiring for up to five positions, while 25% will hire around six to 10. Worker.

Deepa Sud, CEO of Plum Jobs, a Dubai-based HR business transformation and executive search consultancy, said that raising the maximum employment contract term is a very positive move for employers as it will significantly reduce employee turnover as well as staff and candidates People’s expectations are that they are entitled to raises at every pinch of a new contract.

“Contract renewals should not dictate when compensation packages are reviewed and modified,” she said.

“Startups and SMEs are always aware of visa processing costs when recruiting, as this is often a high HR operating cost.”

Taking a longer-term perspective, Sud is working with a number of companies to implement mechanisms to ensure organizations conduct robust assessments before hiring and renewing contracts to reduce the risk of employee turnover.

The UAE has also rolled out a series of initiatives, such as job-seeking visas for new opportunities, and golden and green visas for professionals and skilled workers to help employers retain talent.

Sarah Dixon, managing director for the Middle East at Hays, said that following the introduction of the job seeker visa, more expats will come to the UAE and find work here.

“Job-seekers who are already settled ‘on the ground’ and can meet with potential employers are at an advantage,” Dixon said.

“People here improve their chances of being interviewed and eventually hired compared to those currently abroad, as it shows commitment to the UAE and the employer’s ‘risk’ is more ‘risk’ compared to those currently abroad Small – as a result, these job seekers are at the top of the resume stack of choice.”

Over time, Sud said, the culture within an organization will change as employees become more stable about their roles. Organizations will begin to view employment as long-term rather than stepping stones or short-term.

“For many, their mindset will shift towards their career development and skill development, with a more focused approach,” she added.
