British start-up long-haul airline Hansair has chosen French company Moment to provide passengers with portable in-flight entertainment.
The airline has taken delivery of an Airbus A330-200 and said it has signed a letter of intent to equip the twin-engine jet with the Flymingo Box entertainment system.
The Flymingo Box is a compact wireless server that can be powered by aircraft or batteries.
It will be installed on the A330 ahead of Hans Air’s planned start of revenue service later this year.
Passengers will be able to connect to “a wide variety of premium content,” including movies, TV shows and games streamed through passengers’ own electronic devices, Moment said.
“As an autonomous solution, the Flymingo Box adapts to a non-connected environment, does not require any additional connectivity, and operates using its own Wi-Fi network,” it added.
Hans Air aims to operate services from Birmingham to destinations in India before expanding to North American routes. Its original A330 will have a 299-seat two-class configuration, including 24 premium economy seats.
“Flymingo Box technology will enable passengers to intuitively and instantly access a range of digital services on the go,” said chief commercial officer Martin Dunn, adding that Hans will also promote its loyalty program through the portal.
