Groundbreaking Congresswoman, Children’s Entertainment Icon and Young Poet Laureate Receives Inaugural Children’s Film Resilience Award

Sonia Manzano An Emmy Award-winning actress, producer, screenwriter, author, and speaker, her contributions to children’s media span five decades. Children’s Champion Award – Recognizing individuals who have demonstrated strong commitment through their generous support and involvement in youth and family causes.

House of Representatives Lucille Roybar-Allard, the first Mexican-American woman elected to Congress, has shown a deep commitment to advancing children’s rights throughout her thirty-year tenure on Capitol Hill. Young Activist Award – Recognizes advocacy for young people who raise awareness of important topics facing the next generation and positively influence policy or change in their communities.

Sidney Brown Former Philadelphia Young Poets Laureate and award-winning author of Daydream. She has read her poems at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Benjamin Franklin Hall, Lincoln UniversityThe Idea We Should Steal Festival, she hopes to inspire people to speak their truth and share her poetry with the world.

In addition to recognizing these three individuals, Shine Global will also be honoring the October 20 ceremony. Nominees include:

Winners will be selected by a jury including Kay Wilson Stallings, Maria Perez-Brown, Amy Kennedy, Scott Feinbergand Jana Sue Memel will get $25,000 cash prize.
