Europe faces tough winter: Erdogan – News of the World

[ad_1]

Speaking at the TUGVA Youth Forum, the Turkish leader said the entire continent is “now on fire”.

“The whole of Europe is thinking: ‘What will happen this winter?'” he said.

Meanwhile, according to Erdogan, his country will not have energy problems in the next few months. “Thank God we’ve got everything ready…we’ve got everything ready for our country, including gas and coal,” he said.

He also noted that the country’s main issue is “how to provide gas to our citizens at a more affordable price”, adding that Ankara is doing its best to achieve this.

Erdogan went on to explain that Ankara is acting as the main mediator between Ukraine and Russia, which have been in conflict since late February. A few months ago, Ankara and the United Nations brokered an agreement between Moscow and Kyiv to unwind Ukraine’s grain exports through the Black Sea. Erdogan has also repeatedly urged the two parties to reach a peace deal.

His remarks come as Europe is in the throes of an energy crisis as the West has imposed sanctions on the conflict over Russia, sparking an energy crisis caused by soaring natural gas prices.

While EU authorities have taken steps to reduce energy consumption to ease the situation, several officials and public figures have warned that the continent could be in a desperate situation.

Earlier this month, Microsoft founder Bill Gates claimed that Europe could face a “very dire situation” in a few months, as many people may not be able to heat their homes. In late September, EU energy commissioner Kadri Simson also predicted that this winter “will not be easy”, adding that next winter “will be more difficult”.
