Julia Unleashes Flooding Rainfall in Central America [Updates]

[ad_1]

Weather reports revealed that Julia unleashed strong winds and heavy rainfall, causing flooding in portions of Central America.

In the latest update (4:00 p.m. CDT, October 10, 2022), the National Hurricane Center (NHC) announced that marine warnings are in effect in the eastern Pacific.

The advisory noted that the remnants of Julia would still cause a threat of flash floods in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Mexico, on Tuesday.

Advisory 18 added that Central America could still result in flooding with decreasing risk for flash floods.

The Hurricane Center said heavy rain could emerge over parts of southern Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize in the next few days.

Moreover, the Hurricane Center noted (8:00 p.m., EDT, Monday) that they have been monitoring a low pressure that is seen to move over the far southwestern Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday.

However, NHC recorded that the change of formation is 30% (low).

The storm made landfall at Pearl Lagoon in Nicaragua on Sunday, reaching a Category 1 hurricane.

It brought flooding and rainfall, affecting nearby communities.

However, Julia weakened to a tropical depression after reports said it lost its wind intensity.

According to AccuWeather and Reuters reports, the impact of Julia caused nearly a million people to be without electricity and internet in Nicaragua’s coastal region.

Also, 800 homes suffered from flooding, and 13,000 families were immediately evacuated.

Meanwhile, Guatemala declared a state of calamity. Parts of El Salvador, Venezuela, and Colombia, were also affected and suffered from floodwaters and strong winds.

Moreover, AccuWeather said that people living in hurricane-prone places should stay updated as October is considered notorious for Atlantic hurricanes.

Preparations

Safety is important during disasters, including the onslaught of storms and hurricanes.

Tropical Storm Julia caused heavy winds and rainfall, and the National Hurricane Center in the advisory said it could bring life-threatening floods.

Here are some important reminders during and after the impact of Tropical Storm Julia.

Stay updated. Weather stations emphasized the significance of being updated with the current weather report. You can listen to your local weather bureau or from national television.

Be mindful of Tropical Storm Watches, Warnings, or Hurricane Advisories. It will help you to better brace for the impact of the storm.

Check your house. Julia is expected to bring strong winds and rainfall that could result in small to disastrous flooding. Checking your home for potential damage before and after the storm would repair any damages that could worsen during the onslaught. Be extra careful with electrical supplies, outlets, and wires.

Emergency bag. Hurricanes and storms could lead to potential evacuations, especially for people living nearby the coastal areas.

A handy emergency bag is useful, and it should contain basic food, medicines, and identification. In addition, ensure your mobile phones are fully charged since a storm could damage power lines.

Other reminders. Cancel your trips if they are not necessary, as most roads could submerge in floodwaters, roads with zero visibility, or power lines and communications are damaged.
