MEXICO CITY, Oct 12 (Reuters) – The Argentine Super Cup will be played in Abu Dhabi in January after the Argentine Football Association (AFA) signed a partnership agreement with the Abu Dhabi Sports Commission (ADSC), the committee announced on Wednesday. this deal.
As part of a four-year deal, the Super Cup between the Argentine Serie A champions and the Argentine Cup champions will be played outside Argentina for the first time.
Claudio Tapia, president of the Argentine Football Federation, said: “This partnership will bring greater global visibility to Argentine clubs and leagues and create new business opportunities.”
The Middle East has become a hot spot for the league to host Super Cup matches. In January this year, Spain’s La Liga will host the Spanish Super Cup in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
Arif Hamad Al Awani, secretary-general of ADSC, said the agreement meant Abu Dhabi would host “one of the most important competitions in the world”.
The Argentina Cup is in the semi-final stage, with Boca Juniors, Talleres, Banfield and Patronato in the semi-finals.
Boca are also at the top of the league table and the league runners-up will play them in the Super Cup if they win the double.
