Zoë Kravitz worries that social media will damage her career.
The 33-year-old actress said her “very impulsive” nature was dangerous to her, and said no one really understood the medium.
She also mentioned her decision to claim Hulu’s lack of diversity after her “High Fidelity” series was axed after one series, in her profile in ELLE Magazine’s “Women of Hollywood” issue released on Thursday (13.10.22). Said: “I don’t really sit down and think, that’s my problem sometimes.
“I’m a very impulsive person. It’s one of the pervasive problems with social media.
“Social media is a big experiment we’re all involved in, and it’s a joke to pretend we understand it. I’ve had my ups and downs. I’m sure it helped my career in some ways, but I also think it hurt it.
“It’s difficult for actors because I think we give so much information (about our lives) that it makes it hard for us to disappear into the characters.”
Zoë, daughter of Lenny Kravitz, who is dating Channing Tatum, said online after the 2020 cancellation of Hi-Fi: “This is cool. At least Hulu has a lot of other shows starring women of color that we can watch. Wait a moment.”
She added in ELLE that she grew up knowing nothing about the actors she watched, which she said made them “so interesting.”
She said of being “fearless”: “It’s really been my personal and professional goal. I think fear is deadly and dangerous.
“It can create disease – the fear of getting in trouble, of doing the wrong thing, of not being admired or not being liked.
“I think, especially as a woman, there’s a lot of pressure to be worshipped, and that’s not what art is about.
“I think everyone is afraid to say the wrong thing, to ask the wrong question, to get in trouble, to have someone bring up things they did a long time ago. It’s like we’re stuck in this cycle right now. It’s a war zone… life is very Crazy – it could end anytime. If that doesn’t keep you grounded, I don’t know what will.”
