The United Arab Emirates (UAE) aims to build 20 unicorns or startups valued at $1 billion and above by 2031, with India expected to play a key role.
UAE Minister of Economy Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri launched the Entrepreneurial Nation 2.0 initiative on Friday at GITEX GLOBAL 2022, the region’s annual flagship technology event. The program aims to nurture 8,000 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and create 20 unicorns in the region.

Al Marri said that under this initiative, the UAE will work with India and other countries such as Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Latvia to highlight the potential of UAE start-ups and SMEs on the global stage.
Building on the largest public-private sector partnership of its kind, the second phase of the Entrepreneurial Nation project is expected to open up new avenues for entrepreneurs to access more opportunities, boosting start-ups and SMEs, and grow their businesses from the UAE Expansion into various other global markets.

The UAE’s tech talent pool has been growing rapidly over the past few years. For example, Omar Bin Sultan Al Olama, UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Digital Economy, said that artificial intelligence (AI) talent in the region has doubled in the past two years, India can play a key role in this growth. Despite concerns about a global economic slowdown, the UAE government is optimistic about maintaining its growth momentum. “Our growth starts now, this is our time… We are bullish that people will move from one social class to another… We will see an increase in consumption and digital literacy in the region ,” Al Olama said on the sidelines of the GITEX event.
