During the visit, Minister Jaishankar will discuss with Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry a series of bilateral, regional and international issues of common concern.

The foreign minister will interact with the Indian community in Egypt, including students, and speak at a gathering of Egyptian and Indian business communities.

India and Egypt have traditionally enjoyed warm and friendly relations based on historical and cultural ties, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA) said in a press statement earlier.

This year the two countries celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Egypt has been invited as a “guest country” during India’s G-20 presidency in 2022-23.

Egypt has been one of India’s largest trading partners in Africa and promoting bilateral trade, commerce and investment will be one of the focus areas of the visit. India-Egypt bilateral trade hit a record $7.26 billion in 2021-22.

India’s investment in Egypt exceeds $3.15 billion. More than 50 Indian companies are active in Egypt in a range of sectors including manufacturing, chemicals, energy, infrastructure, retail and more.

The MEA said Jashankar’s visit provided an opportunity to review the entire spectrum of our bilateral and multilateral relations and exchange views with Egyptian leaders on a range of issues of mutual interest.

This visit provides an opportunity to deepen cooperation and explore new measures for bilateral partnership. (ANI)
