Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB), the largest Islamic bank in the UAE, is partnering with the UAE Ministry of Interior (MoI) to enable the bank to digitise its KYC journey through a new-age facial recognition service.
The bank will also offer its new bank customers the ability to complete a verification check to open an account with the DIB.
The MoI Digital Verified Face Gateway service enhances the new eKYC journey, ensuring instant, accurate and highly secure identity verification.
Open a bank account remotely
This will allow new customers to open a bank account with DIB, the world’s second largest Islamic bank, remotely and digitally via face-matching verification, eliminating the need for customers to physically visit a branch for initial KYC verification and onboarding.
Commenting on the partnership, Dr Adnan Chilwan, CEO of DIB Group, said: “This initiative is in line with DIB’s digital transformation strategy and the UAE’s vision for a truly digital economy. The use of the facial recognition system is part of DIB becoming the most advanced Islamic financial institution in the world. key milestones.”

Enhance service

The MoI facial recognition project started in 2007 with the vision to develop a trusted and secure way to verify people’s identities remotely. In 2021, the MoI Digital Verification Face Gateway service is launched and provides sophisticated AI-based security solutions to verify identities remotely, in line with the UAE’s digital transformation policy and strategy, and is considered an outstanding example in the world.
