Badminton Asia recently held its 2022 Annual General Meeting at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Hotel, Penang, Malaysia. A total of 57 delegates attended the meeting, and 8 delegates participated virtually, all from 27 member associations.
During the meeting, UAE Badminton Federation and Asian Badminton Federation officials discussed plans and mechanisms to develop and promote the sport through an ambitious strategic plan, especially given the growing interest of UAE clubs in forming teams to compete in various tournaments.
At the annual general meeting, the UAE Badminton Federation was represented by Mohammed Obaid Hilal Al Naqbi, Federation Board Member and Head of the Events Committee.
It was announced during the meeting that the UAE will host the Asian Badminton Championships and the Asian Badminton Team Championships over the next five years, starting in 2023.
The five-year contract is in partnership with Beyond Boundaries.
This will be the first time the UAE will host the Asian Championships. Team tournaments will be held in February and individual tournaments will be held in April.
The move comes after appreciating the UAE’s organizational status and encouragement to the recently established Gaming Federation.
Naqbi confirmed that under the umbrella of the Asian Badminton Federation, several separate meetings were held with the Continental Federation, which helped to gain more expertise and gain the various visions and experiences of these institutions, especially since this is The first external meeting of the Asian Badminton Federation. Nakbi praised the interest of the Asian Federation and its support for the UAE Badminton Federation to ensure a strong presence on the regional and international stage for some time to come, especially as the UAE Badminton Federation is still in its early stages.
