If the fine is cleared within 30 days after the car is impounded, the owner can pay Dh1,500.
Abu Dhabi is stepping up its crackdown on dirty cars abandoned on the streets.
The Abu Dhabi city government said in a new warning that if drivers are found to leave their cars in public places for a long time, they will be fined AED 3,000 and their vehicles will be confiscated.
City officials stated that after close monitoring, a 3-day notice sticker should be affixed to abandoned vehicles. If no action is taken during the grace period, the vehicle will be towed away.
Although the fine is 3,000 dirhams, if the fine is cleared within 30 days after the car is impounded, the car owner only needs to pay 1,500 dirhams.
The authorities stated that this new activity aims to educate the community on how abandoned cars affect the surrounding environment and instruct them on how to keep their vehicles in good condition.
According to civic groups, hundreds of dirty cars are usually reported in various areas, including Moussafah Industrial Zone, Mafraq, Baniyas, Albania, etc. Most of them are detained, especially if they are on the side of the road and other places without fences.
