2023, the year of ‘job opportunities’ for professionals in the UAE

More than eight in 10 Emirati professionals (86%) are positive about the coming year and expect it to be a turning point.

A new survey by Bayt shows that 67% of people in the UAE say they have set themselves future career goals, which include finding a new job (66%), learning new skills (46%) and achieving higher Salary (44%). com, the top job search site in the Middle East, and YouGov, a market research company.

What drives the ideal job

For UAE professionals, the three most important factors in a dream job are salary and benefits (69%), career development opportunities (42%) and job security (33%).

Interestingly, respondents would rather be an employee (52%) than own a business (22%).

69% of respondents said the reported reason for seeking a job in the UAE was a desire to continuously learn and gain experience. This was followed by making money (58%), feeling useful to society (48%) and being financially independent (42%).

Ola Haddad, Director of Human Resources at Bayt.com, said: “As the region emerges from the shadow of the pandemic, MENA professionals face challenges in forging the future. It is therefore encouraging that the majority of respondents are optimistic about the future attitudes and determination to achieve their dreams. The latest career aspirations survey covers attitudes towards current jobs, career aspirations and barriers to career advancement.”

work motivation level

When it comes to workplace motivation levels, nearly seven in 10 respondents (67%) report feeling motivated at work. Possibly related to motivation at work, the prevalence of mentors and role models featured heavily in the findings, with five in 10 respondents (50%) saying they had mentors or role models in their careers.

Despite respondents showing their motivation in the workplace, 57% said higher salary and perks/benefits would increase motivation at work, followed by better work-life balance (45%) and promotion to the next level (37%).

future personal ambitions

According to nearly seven in 10 respondents (68%), the vast majority believe that their number one personal goal for the next year is to save more money. Other goals include buying a property (40%), spending more time with family (35%) and exercising more (33%).

Zafar Shah, Director of Research at YouGov, said: “The latest career aspirations survey represents a fundamental change in the attitudes and career aspirations of professionals in the MENA region. It is critical that employers in the MENA region understand the aspirations of their employees , to further strengthen the recruiting and job search process to prepare for this shift.”
