Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev see each other for the first time ahead of Tuesday’s headline title fight UFC 280 Abu Dhabi this weekend.
In the vacant belt encounter at the Etihad Arena on Saturday night, the lightweight rivals crossed paths at the Sportsman’s Hotel on Yas Island as Makhachev checked in for Fight Week.
The division’s most recent champion, Oliveira, Been training in Abu Dhabi since the beginning of last week. The Brazilian, who celebrated his 33rd birthday on Monday, is on an 11-game winning streak.
Meanwhile, Makhachev is in his first title fight after 10 straight UFC victories.
A video on Tuesday showed Makhachev and the team arriving in the capital — they have been training in Dubai for the past five weeks — where they passed Oliveira and his team at the hotel reception.
Some of the fighters on the UFC 280 card were at the hotel on Tuesday, where bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling was pictured signing autographs on official fight posters. The kandura-clad American defended his belt against former champion TJ Dillashaw in the penultimate game of the night.
The popular Sean O’Malley, who plays Petr Yan in another high-profile match, was also pictured with Belal Muhammad on Tuesday Wear kandura together. No. 5 welterweight contender Mohammed took on undefeated No. 8 Sean Brady.
