UAE ADQ team starts its first boot camp in Abu Dhabi

UAE Team ADQ, the UAE Women’s World Tour (WWT) cycling team accredited by the International Cycling Union (UCI), arrived in Abu Dhabi for their first boot camp training.

During the 10-day visit to Abu Dhabi, all 15 riders will take part in team training sessions on Abu Dhabi’s traditional cycling landscape (Al Hudayriyat Island, Al Wahtba and Yas Marina Circuit) and participate in various sponsorship activities .

The team took part in a community event at Yas Marina Circuit on Monday.

The event titled “Women’s Community Cycling” is open to all women interested in cycling in Abu Dhabi, regardless of their level of cycling, to join a pro-rider from UAE team ADQ for a ride around the track.

Established in 2021, UAE ADQ Team is the first women’s professional cycling team in the Middle East, with riders from New Zealand, Belarus, Canada, Slovenia, Italy, Russia, Switzerland and the UAE, and competes on the tour with 14 other international women’s world teams .

UAE ADQ’s Marta Bastianelli is 15th in the UCI’s global rankings and has won previous World, European and Italian Championships, Gent-Wevelgem and Ronde van Vlaanderen.

This year she has seven victories with the UAE ADQ team: a stage at Vuelta CV Feminas and Setmana Valenciana in Spain, Omloop van het Hageland in Belgium, a stage and final classification at the Elsy Jacobs Festival in Luxembourg and two in Britta, France A stage at the Women’s Tour in Nepal, and an excellent second place on a stage at the Tour de France.

The team’s Sofia Bertizzolo also achieved impressive results. She returned to victory in Italy with silver at Trofeo Oro in Europe, Trofeo Binda and Giro dell’Emilia at Cittiglio, Italy, and a second podium at the Women’s Tour in England.

Eugenia Bujak has confirmed herself as the Slovenian National Road Cycling Champion in 2022 and won a silver medal in the ITT competition at the Algerian Mediterranean Games. The UAE ADQ team also welcomed the talented Silvia Persico, bronze medalist at the recent UCI Road Cycling World Championships in Australia, and five-race winner Chiara Consonni this year, including Giro Donne’s final stage and world championship gold medal In the 2022 Team Time Trial.

UAE rider Safiya Al Sayegh, the first Arab female professional WWT cyclist, had a successful season with the national team and won six medals at the Arab Championships, including two golds, three silvers and one bronze medal. She won the National Road Championship and the Individual Time Trial (ITT) race for the third year in a row.

UAE ADQ team members are preparing for the new UCI World Tour 2023 competitions and events, including three Grand Tour events: Tour de France Ladies, Tour de Donne and Tour de France Challenge.
