Angel, October 20, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — America’s largest and longest-running Asia Pacific Islander awards ceremony will return for its annual return this December at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, marking API’s excellence and excellence in arts, culture and entertainment. 20th anniversary of representation.With the theme of “lighting up” 20th Unforgettable Gala, Presented by Lexus and produced by Character Media, will be Saturday 17 December.
Founded in 2002, the Black Tie Event affectionately known as UNFO (or Biggest API Party of the Year) is organized by James Liu, founder and publisher of award-winning magazines KoreAm Journal, Audrey Magazine, Kore Asian Media, and Character Media, all of which highlight the impact of API game changers.Last year’s UNFO winners include john joe, Simu Liu and Sandra Oh,and many more.
“The Memorable Gala started bringing light to the API community 20 years ago, when there was relatively little awareness and opportunity,” said Daniel Daikin, to chair the 2022 UNFO Selection Committee. “Today, we are honored to celebrate what we have accomplished as we honor both the API icons who helped pave the way and the next generation of talent who proudly lead us into the future.”
King returns as chairman of his selection committee, overseeing nominations and voting by a representative group of selection committee members Hollywood Executives and entertainers as well as past UNFO winners and other API community leaders.For the first time this year, UNESCO co-chairs have been announced, consisting of journalists and presenters Lisa Ling Share selection committee responsibilities with Kim.
“In the more than 30 years I’ve worked in media, I’ve seen the number of APIs grow exponentially,” Ling noted. “It’s been a long time coming in large numbers on screen, on stage, in sports and in business. Especially at a time when many in our community feel under attack, seeing APIs in every aspect of pop culture reflects our sense of belonging.”
This year’s UNFO will feature Black Eyed Peas from world-renowned hip-hop icon Apl.de.Ap. “I am honored to perform at the Gala’s 20th anniversary celebration and am especially excited to highlight Filipino culture,” said Apl.de.Ap. “It’s also very cool to announce this during Filipino American History Month. I’ll be bringing some special friends to commemorate this momentous occasion.”
