The Baton Rouge General’s Medical Arts Program, which brings creative activity to patients to inspire hope and promote recovery, celebrates its 10th anniversary and the opening of a new gallery on October 13.
The event featured 78 artworks at the hospital’s Cornflower Café and honored the first, second and third prize winners. Margaret Hawkins’ View From a Bee topped the list.
John Bishop Jazz Trio and Broadmoor Baptist Quartet provided entertainment.
One of the artworks, “Meghan: Miracles and Masterpieces,” has a special connection to the Medical Art Project. The painting depicts a young woman lying on a hospital bed with a paintbrush in her hand. The painting is in line with the artist Anna Hingle because the girl in the painting is her niece. In 2017, 18-year-old Megan Safiotti suffered a cardiac arrest.
Lagnape Women’s Club acknowledges domestic violence awareness
The GFWC Lagniappe Women’s Club held its monthly meeting on October 17th at Broadmoor United Methodist Church.
Members wear purple in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month.the hostess is Diane Braun and Libby Fisakley. The speaker is Scott Black, amateur bird photographer. Blake showcases a variety of bird photos he has taken at home and elsewhere in Baton Rouge and around Louisiana, as well as in other states.
