Review: Meghan Trainor’s album is therapy session entertainment for all

[ad_1]

Meghan Trainor, “Takin’ It Back” (Epic Records)

Meghan Trainor is back with the kind of doo-wop music that made her famous, but this time with a twist.

Her new album, Takin’ It Back, isn’t your usual self-love journey, it’s a more mature Trainor. Riding the ups and downs we all secretly go through, moments of confidence, self-doubt and grief are filled with reassuring reality.

Like on her single “Don’t I Make It Look Easy,” Meghan talks about filtering the truth and showing the best of herself to the world, even if it feels like a straight lie.

Trainor has done some of her own growing up since her last album, getting married and becoming a mom, and she’s imparting everything she’s learned along the way.

From start to finish, the album feels like therapy, and her lyric Trainor is a mirror of our fears and a wise voice on a rainy day.

Don’t get me wrong. As in life, this album is not just a slow song about self-reflection, but an uplifting and fun experience.

Like on the single “Made You Look,” a loud and sexy Trainor sings: “I can wear my Louis Vuitton, but even if I don’t wear anything, bet I make you look.” music video is a family affair, featuring singer best friend and TikToker Chris Olsen and former “Spy Kids” actor and her husband Daryl Sabara.

Additionally, Trainor experimented with different genres of music, such as “Mom Loves Mambo”. Featuring Dominican singer Natti Natasha and Cuban-American musician Arturo Sandoval, it’s sure to keep your dancing craze going.

On track 12, “While You’re Young,” Trainor’s lyrics feel like familiar voices in our heads that we always ignore, sometimes involuntarily.

She tries to get rid of all worries and asks us to be more vulnerable. “You’re just getting started, you’re good enough / I know it doesn’t help with pain, but have you ever tried dancing in the rain? / You’re not the only one who feels this way.”

The album ends with a slow song “Final Breath” that brings you back to the heart of the mood. Like the best therapy sessions, right before sending you into the real world.

Meghan sings “I’d do it again if I could,” and when you wind up with this genre and emotional swing, you’ll feel less alone and sure you’re not going through it all alone.
