Senior officials of G42, the UAE’s leading artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing technology company, said it will continue to disrupt the industry status quo and find ways in which AI and technology can benefit organisations and society.

G42 Group Chief Growth Officer Raffaele Breschi said the next era will be marked by its ability to drive new businesses on a global scale.

“We will use the full potential of our recently launched G42 Expansion Fund to invest in companies across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia that share the same G42 mission of moving humanity forward through disruptive technologies,” Brees said. Kee told Khaleej Times recently ended Gitex Technology on the sidelines.

G42 is considered a proponent of the use of artificial intelligence as a powerful force for the benefit of humanity. The Abu Dhabi-based group debuted Gitex and showcased some of its innovative solutions at the region’s five-day premier technology show.

Breschi, an industry veteran who joined G42 in November 2021, said Gitex was an excellent opportunity to showcase some of the company’s solutions and sign key partnerships and agreements during the event.

Below are excerpts from the interview:

How was your G42 experience at Gitex 2022?

Any specific deals signed during the five-day event?

We see Gitex as a valuable opportunity to forge and announce new partnerships with like-minded industry leaders and organizations that are accelerating the use of AI as a force for social good. We have already announced several partnerships and agreements, and we look forward to announcing additional deals in due course.

Some notable partnerships and agreements signed during Gitex include:

● G42 partnered with Benya Group, a leading provider of digital and ICT infrastructure in Egypt and the Middle East and Africa region, to provide artificial intelligence and critical telecommunications infrastructure in Egypt. Through equity-based partnerships, G42 aims to provide the capital and advisors needed to further develop the region’s technology sector, providing critical infrastructure such as data centers, telecom towers and cloud technology.

● G42 Healthcare and Amazon Web Services signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate to provide G42 Healthcare’s world-leading next-generation sequencing, proteomics and data analysis capabilities to government, population genomics programs and life sciences programs.

Which technology solutions presented at G42 will be present at the event?

We’re showcasing many new innovations at Gitex. Notably, we showcased two advanced technology solutions from Bayanat at the AI Everything Hall booth. First, we present a scale model of digital twin technology, one of Bayanat’s most transformative AI-driven technologies. Bayanat’s digital twin is at the heart of TXAI, the MENA region’s first autonomous taxi service, feeding data for autonomous vehicles and fleet management systems. A digital twin simulates how a physical object or system will be affected by changing conditions through multi-source data management, location big data analysis and data visualization. Additionally, we present our digital sandbox, which enables safe route planning and panoramic street views.

G42 Smart Nation showcased its Video Brain solution – a full stack video analytics AI platform that combines data from disparate independent systems to add value to end users through its advanced analytics capabilities. With its fully integrated AI video analytics platform, Video Brain can provide unparalleled insight into moving vehicles, people and objects, as well as potential threat events and behaviors. When used in conjunction with the digital twin command and control platform Video Brain, real-time alerts and actions are triggered. The solution was used at Expo 2020 Dubai to ensure the safety of millions of visitors and provide a safe and seamless visitor experience.

How has G42 fared in 2022 so far, and how do you see the company’s outlook for 2023?

2022 will be a strong year for G42 growth and progress in deploying AI across industries and regions. Earlier this year, we reimagined our identity as a growing organization and launched a refreshed brand that reflects our ambition to transform society through the global implementation of advanced technology and artificial intelligence.

Through strategic partnerships with a number of operating companies, we expand the reach of artificial intelligence and technology with the goal of driving progress and addressing industry challenges.

We recently announced that G42 Healthcare will merge with Mubadala Health to create a new, first-of-its-kind integrated healthcare company operating at the forefront of medical research and innovation. This is just one example of how we can use data and artificial intelligence to transform traditional industries such as healthcare. Other partners this year include G42 Cloud’s strategic partnership with IBM and the Serbian government.

Recently, the G42 signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Under the MoU, G42 will work with the ministry to explore the use of big data analytics and digital use cases in government, with a focus on healthcare, finance, safety and security, and to develop digital twin technology for the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana.

Looking ahead to 2023, the next era of G42 will be marked by our ability to drive new businesses on a global scale. We will leverage the full potential of our recently launched G42 Expansion Fund to invest in companies in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and throughout Asia that share the same G42 mission of moving humanity forward through disruptive technologies.

What is your growth strategy in the post-Covid-19 era?

Since its founding in 2018, G42 has continually reimagine what technology can do, applying advanced thinking and innovation to accelerate progress while exploring the next frontiers of breakthroughs. The UAE is transitioning from a natural resource economy to a knowledge economy, for which technology will play a key role. The Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated many of these trends globally as organizations become more reliant on technology and more interested in their digital transformation.

Going forward, the G42 will continue to disrupt the status quo and find ways in which AI and technology can benefit organizations and societies. Through strategic partnerships and collaborations with countries and organizations, our operating companies will deploy impactful AI solutions and optimize to transform a wide range of industries such as healthcare, smart cities, government, financial services, oil and Gas, education, geospatial, aviation, sports.

How do you assess the future of technology in terms of providing solutions to various challenges in energy, healthcare and the environment?

For us, the answer is always “yes” when it comes to society’s most important questions and challenges. Our curious nature and purposeful focus help us understand where the world can go and our role. Our ecosystem is able to provide a full range of AI solutions across industries, thanks to end-to-end products and services, from design-send-development datacenters to geospatial intelligence and everything in between.

As the world evolves, technology will continue to play an integral role in advancing and transforming society. The future of our environment depends on the smart decisions we make today, so we’re looking at how we can create a more sustainable and better future in every aspect of our work.

For example, G42 and our operating companies are becoming a model for sustainable and responsible technology solutions in line with the UAE’s vision for net-zero emissions by 2050. Knowing that cloud computing’s primary impact on the environment is powering servers and the sheer amount of electricity needed to stay cool – especially in a climate like the UAE, where temperatures are naturally hot – Khazna data center facilities are equipped with solar panels and efficient use cycles Water cooling system. The company will soon use artificial intelligence to collect real-time data across facilities to pinpoint where upgrades will lead to greater efficiencies.

G42 Healthcare is leveraging data and emerging technologies to create a transformative shift in the traditional healthcare paradigm. The company established the region’s first dedicated contract research organization (IROS) for conducting clinical research with and for local populations, and established the largest and most technologically advanced Omics facility in the region, the Omics Center of Excellence. As the enabler of the 1 million UAE genomes initiative, G42 Healthcare is one of the largest sequencing-as-a-service providers in the region, and together with its multi-omics products, consumer genomics and wastewater analysis programs, the company enables precise, predictive and Personalize and population health, accelerate innovation and R&D efforts, and make informed decisions based on big data across healthcare.

Finally, while addressing the issue of smart and urban transportation, we recently launched a fleet of AV taxis called TXAI, driving the advancement of intelligent transportation. As a step toward developing innovative mobility solutions, these advancements will redefine public transportation using autonomous and electric vehicles and have the potential to be successful in other settings such as public transportation or law enforcement.
