Mel B is engaged to boyfriend Rory McPhee.
The Spice Girls star was said to be “overwhelmed” after the hairdresser proposed earlier this week and praised him for restoring her confidence in men after a decade of marriage to Stephen Belafonte — — She was accused of domestic abuse.
A source told The Sun in Sunday’s paper: “Mel is delighted, it means a lot to her because she’s been through a lot.
“It takes a huge amount of effort for a man to make her trust him and love again.
“Rory is from her native Leeds and he has known her for many years. The exact opposite of many of the people he has relationships with.
“He’s a very normal, down-to-earth guy, of great character, and works very hard to build his own business and family business. He’s not flashy or interested in the limelight.”
The insider added: “He came from a loving family and his best friend was Mel’s cousin Christian Cook. He really took the time to understand what she was going through. He was madly in love with her.
“It was hard to trust a man after years of abuse, but he showed her that men can be loving, trustworthy and dependable.”
Rory, who has been dating The Terrible Spice since 2018, proposed on Wednesday (10/19/22) at the posh Cliveden House hotel in Berkshire and presented Mel with a gift of value £100,000 pear-shaped champagne diamond ring.
Friends said the 47-year-old star was “in tears” when Rory brought up the issue.
One said: “She said ‘yes’ right away. But it’s incredibly emotional because it’s such a big moment for her after everything she’s been through.”
Mel’s eldest daughter Phoenix was the first to be told the news, along with Mel’s family and her Spice Girls – Melanie C, Victoria Beckham, Jerry Horner and Emma Bunton – were all told the news.
