Companies find it difficult to hire skilled workers due to ‘unrealistic salary expectations’

[ad_1]

Due to a lack of skilled and qualified workers, UAE companies are finding it difficult to recruit suitable candidates for open positions such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity specialists, data scientists and cloud engineers.

Claims of unrealistic salaries by applicants are also one of the biggest challenges companies face when hiring skilled IT professionals, HR and recruiting consultants say. In addition, companies experienced unnecessary delays in hiring, ceding skilled candidates to competitors.

According to the latest Hays GCC Salary Guide 2022, 50% of employers say their biggest challenge when recruiting staff is a lack of suitable candidates, with another 21% claiming it is a job search with unrealistic salary requirements By. 19% of companies expect to face skills shortages in IT and technology, especially in cloud, cybersecurity and data.

“As many employers are struggling to find the right talent, especially in industries like fintech, there is definitely a shortage of skilled workers in the tech industry. As a tourism hub, the UAE, especially Dubai, always faces a lack of experienced tourism and senior hospitality professionals,” said Waleed Anwar, Managing Director of Upfront HR.

There is a shortage of skilled software developers, cybersecurity experts and artificial intelligence experts, he said.

Billy Bilton, senior technical advisor at Hays, said the lack of skilled and qualified workers makes it difficult to fill niche and high-tech skills such as data scientists, cybersecurity architects, cloud engineers and cloud architects combined positions.

Unnecessary hiring delays

One of the main challenges, Bilton added, is that organizations don’t position themselves correctly in the market, leaving candidates without more established brands.

“Furthermore, we often see unnecessary delays in the recruiting process, from submitting CVs to job offers. As a result, candidates often open up to other opportunities and look for jobs elsewhere. Some companies don’t keep abreast of market conditions, Their work model is not flexible enough and doesn’t offer any work-from-home options,” he said.

Outsourcing, Freelance

Bilton said companies that were unable to fill positions with local talent were attracting expats by offering some overseas job options.

“We have noticed an increase in expat salaries compared to local salaries to accommodate these skills shortages. Companies are also using outsourcing/freelance options to fill their roles rather than paying permanent salaries … Contracting is a good option due to the rapid onboarding of employees with specialized skills from all over the world.”

Waleed Anwar said employers were looking overseas for the right skilled talent to fill vacancies, while using specialist recruiters in the region would make it easier to find the right talent as these recruiters would have databases to support their searches.

“The recent changes to the visa rules by the UAE government should make it easier to attract international talent to the UAE to fill some of the gaps,” he added.
