Leonardo celebrated the Online Gaming Awards today on stage at the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, raising awareness of the importance of a systematic approach and training to address security concerns. The online game is a practical challenge involving cybersecurity professionals from Italian and UAE national strategic infrastructure companies, as well as representatives of universities and research sectors.

Under the auspices of the UAE Cyber ​​Security Council, the event was also an opportunity to discuss cyberspace challenges with leading experts including Dr Mohamed Hamad Al-Kuwaiti, Head of Cyber ​​Security, UAE Government, and Dr Marwan Alzarouni, Director of Information Services e-Security in Dubai Center (DESC), Professor Roberto Baldoni, Director of the Italian National Cyber ​​Security Agency, and Tommaso Profeta, Managing Director of Leonardo’s Cyber ​​Security Department.

Profeta said: “While necessary, procedures and cutting-edge technology are not sufficient to ensure cybersecurity, but the human element is fundamental and ongoing training of all actors involved in national security is critical to identifying and confronting risks. Using Leonardo’s cyber range platform, a strategic industrial IT network was virtually replicated, and cybersecurity operators and students were challenged to defend against simulated cyberattacks. Experts from the four defendant teams are from: Emirates Steel and Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC); Italian company Maire Tecnimont; UAE University Khalifa University and United Arab Emirates University; TeamItaly – Italian Cyber ​​​​of the National Consortium for International Universities Informatics (CINI) ​​The Defender team.

The game offers Italian and UAE stakeholders an opportunity to learn, confront and share cybersecurity knowledge, which is rapidly becoming critical for countries and citizens around the world.

Leonardo’s cyber range system has been selected by the Qatar Computing Institute to train cyber security operators and assess the resilience of digital infrastructure against potential cyber attacks.
