Tadweer at Al Dhafra Festival in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, UAE: The Abu Dhabi Waste Management Centre (Tadweer) has announced its participation in the 16th Al Dhafra Festival, sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. Organised by Abu Dhabi’s Cultural Projects and Heritage Festival Committee, the festival will take place in the Al Dhafra area of ​​Abu Dhabi from 28 October 2022 to 31 January 2023.

The Centre’s presence at the Al Dafra Festival is in line with Tadweer’s commitment to participating in the event to ensure preservation of the emirate’s aesthetic appeal by providing high-quality waste collection and transport services. The center will work before, during and after the festival, providing waste collection and transportation, pest control and animal control services at multiple locations of the event.

Dr Salem Khalfan Al Kaabi, Acting Director General of Tadweer, said: “The Centre’s participation in the Al Dhafra Festival supports our efforts to participate in the event to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a country that supports and protects the heritage of future generations. “During the event, the center will be staffed with professional garbage collection, transportation and pest control teams, equipped with advanced tools and equipment, to keep the festival grounds clean in accordance with approved regulations and standards. This supports the center in providing a clean and healthy environment for visitors efforts and encourage them to adopt best practices to maintain their cleanliness, reflecting our key role in implementing sustainable waste management and pest control systems in the UAE,” His Excellency added.

The center has started providing garbage collection and transportation services about two weeks before the festival, and will continue to provide services for a month after the festival ends. During the event, the centre will provide 158 waste containers for distribution to various venues including Mazayna Sweihan, Mazayna Razeen, Mazayna Zayed City and the venue for the closing event of the Al Dhafra Music Festival. Tadweer will also increase the number of cleaners on site and provide state-of-the-art vehicles and equipment to collect and transport waste to the best standards during the festival to ensure the safety of participants and visitors. This supports Tadweer’s efforts to maintain the aesthetic and civil appeal of the area and provide a healthy environment for the community.

In terms of pest control, the center will conduct a comprehensive survey of all festival sites to control public health pests and insects. Tadweer’s professional team will take all necessary steps to locate, control and prevent pests ahead of the festival. The team will continue to work during the festival to monitor and control vectors such as flies, mosquitoes, rodents and cockroaches as well as dangerous pests such as bees, Wasps, snakes, scorpions and annoying pests such as ants, lizards and flying insects. These measures will be carried out while employing the latest global methods and technologies such as smart traps, adhesive traps and repellents, as well as on-site non-chemical treatments, monitoring of potential and actual infection points and through topical treatments. Chemical and vacuum processing to keep everyone safe. Survey and monitoring activities for public health pests will be carried out at festival venues in Abu Dhabi’s Sweihan, Razeen and Al Dhafra areas such as animal enclosures, waste receptacles, popular market areas, registration centres, reception tents and other sites.

The centre will assign a team of qualified specialists to monitor small stray animals such as cats, dogs and foxes in the area according to the best standards and guidelines approved by local and international animal welfare associations, with animal safety in mind. Animals are being monitored and restrained. The centre will set up cages for stray animals spread across multiple festival venues so that a professional team can monitor the animals quickly and efficiently without disturbing the public, as part of Tadweer’s commitment to providing the highest public health and safety standards in the emirate.

The venues for the Al Dhafra Festival, held as part of the Abu Dhabi Camel Mazayen or beauty pageant season, include Mazayna Sweihan, Mazayna Razeen, Mazayna Zayed City and the closing festival. During the event, there will be a number of traditional races and competitions such as Falconry, Thoroughbred Arabian, Arabian Saluki and Marksmanship. The festival will also include a variety of heritage and cultural events, traditional bazaars and outdoor markets, all reflecting the passion of the people of the UAE and everyone in the Arabian Gulf region.
