For everyone’s safety, residents of Abu Dhabi have been warned not to use headphones while riding a bicycle or scooter, as this can cause difficulty concentrating.

In a series of social media messages, the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipality and Transport (DMT) said that using headphones while cycling or scooter disrupts “your concentration and jeopardizes your safety” and the safety of others”. road users. “

“For your safety, please ensure that you do not use headphones while cycling to remain alert to your surroundings at all times,” the ITC said.

Officials are also asking people to make sure they always get off at crosswalks.

“Riding a bike on a crosswalk puts their lives at risk and yours,” officials said.

Residents have also been told to be careful when cycling and make sure to obey the speed limit and slow down in pedestrian areas.

Authorities in Abu Dhabi had earlier said they had stepped up measures to crack down on e-scooter riders who violated the rules. Police noted that bicycles, manual and electric scooters are allowed in Abu Dhabi. Police also released a video in which they are seen banning electric scooters with seats in the capital.

Officials noted that cyclists must wear helmets and obey the rules of the road, and a bicycle or e-scooter should have only one rider.

According to the authorities, the Emirate of Abu Dhabi’s regulations on the use of bicycles and e-bikes stipulate the amount of fines for non-compliance. Fines range from AED 200 to AED 500 for the following: non-compliance with safety instructions and standards, or violations of cycling on prohibited roads and areas.
