The Emirates Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) has announced the launch of 800 toll-free number portability from one service provider to another, while ensuring the number remains the same.

The move is to strengthen competition among telecom service providers and broaden the choices for customers.

The new service offers companies already assigned toll-free numbers the option to reserve numbers and change service providers, allowing them to experience the services offered by two telecom providers in the UAE without changing the toll-free number company they use.

TDRA launched its fixed number porting service in 2021, and since its launch, more than 12,000 fixed numbers have been ported between service providers.

The fixed number portability service and the free number portability service are the continuation of the mobile number portability service launched by TDRA in 2013, through which more than 2 million numbers have been ported.

Eng reviews these services. Mohammed Al Ramsi, Deputy Director General, Telecommunications Sector, TDRA, said: “By launching number portability services in mobile, fixed and toll-free formats, we aim to intensify competition among service providers to provide the best services and products.”

TDRA emphasizes that number portability requires customers to follow certain steps, including paying bills due from current service providers, and that numbers must not be partially or completely disconnected.

After the transfer process is complete, the customer will have a grace period to resolve his/her contractual financial obligations and pay applicable fees due.
