The last time we spoke to AR Rahman, the musical maestro was performing at Expo 2020 Dubai. This time, the Indian musician will perform in Abu Dhabi, his first concert in the capital.

“It’s a pleasure to be in Abu Dhabi,” a modest Rahman, wearing his signature hue, told City Times on Thursday night. The musician recently had a great US tour, and before that, he was actively involved in the World’s Fair. When we say heavy words, we mean Rahman gives multiple concerts and his work is played almost every week, how can one forget the incredible Phil Dawes Orchestra, in fact, it Return to the iconic Al Wasl Square on November 19.

Rahman’s last performance in Dubai was at Expo 2020’s Jubilee Park, just before the grand spectacle closed. He was inspired by his successful December concert at Expo 2020. Maybe it was the love he received from the UAE audience that made him want to come back.

Every time he does, he is not disappointed.

This time, Rahman promised another spectacular night filled with renditions of all his songs. “We’ve curated an amazing list of singers including me,” he said, “and we’re going to give you a musical experience that’s been happening for 30 years.”

We believed him because he said he would just sit in his room and practice before concerts.

directorial debut

While Rahman has earned his ceiling in composition and production, the musician has recently ventured into directing. As a result, he Le Muska virtual reality film with an international cast.

What Rahman thought would take two months to release took six years to complete. “It’s because of all the technology involved,” he said. “Everything has to be in sync because it’s three-dimensional and uses extreme haptics.”

Le MuskThe founding of Rahman dates back to when Rahman lived in Los Angeles, where he had “a lot of free time” to learn new things about photography and screenwriting, and attended a lot of workshops. “That kind of thing went over again, and then when we were talking as a family, my wife said we should make a movie,” he said. “Later, someone showed me virtual reality and I said, ‘Why don’t we do this?'”

Rahman’s first feature is being installed first in Los Angeles; over the next three months, it will be on Sunset Boulevard. It’s also being installed in Toronto, with plans to follow in Seattle, the Middle East and India, Rahman said.

The 55-year-old has been composing, producing and directing, so we asked AR Rahman what’s next. “I don’t know,” Rahman said, laughing, “let’s keep doing it.”

When asked about his secret to staying calm at all events, Rahman asserts an insightful analogy. “When driving, if you’re not calm, you can kill or be killed,” he said. “It’s like when you’re driving a car, you have multiple feelings about what’s going to happen. So it’s important to stay calm, it’s important to keep your mental state, it’s important to bring in your own feelings about your own beliefs about art, so that We can experience beauty.”

Working with Mani Ratnam

Rahman has been working with renowned Indian director Mani Ratnam for as long as he can remember, in fact, the latter introduced the musician to Roja 1992.Since then, the two have collaborated on a number of projects (mainly Tamil) such as Mumbai (1995), Grandmaster (2007), Lawanan (2010), and the latest Ponniyin Selvyan – 1released last month.

“We’ve been working together,” he said. “And for this film, we did a lot of research.” Rahman said the first round of composition was done in Bali about five years ago, and the overall experience was great.
