WBA light heavyweight world champion Dmitry Bivol says he is only focused on himself ahead of next week’s title fight with Gilberto ‘Zuldo’ Ramirez.

Both fighters are undefeated throughout their careers and Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Arena is destined for fireworks on November 5. After a lengthy training camp in the UAE capital, Bivor is ready to defend his title.

The Russians arrived in Abu Dhabi on September 27 for an intense training camp under coach Gennady Marshanov.

At a recent open media meeting at Kane’s gym, the 31-year-old looked stronger, faster and more solid than ever. With just over a week to go until fight night, Bivol is now tasked with maintaining that.

“We’ve been training hard – now we just have to keep our form,” said Bivor, who has a perfect record after 20 games.

“We’re at our best right now, so just need to keep it up. It’s less about working hard now, it’s about staying in shape and making sure that when I get into the Etihad Stadium that night, I’m at my peak.”

His opponent Ramirez — the wildly popular Mexican southpaw — rose to 175 pounds in 2019 and added five more victories to his record, finishing unblemished with 30 KOs 44-0-0. He arrived in Abu Dhabi as the WBA’s mandatory No. 1 challenger after a fourth-round knockout of Dominic Bothell earlier this year.

“Of course, every fight is a tough fight for me, but it’s going to be especially tough because he’s a great opponent determined to win,” Bivor said.

“He doesn’t know what it’s like to lose, and neither do I. I think it’s probably been four years since I’ve been fighting him, so I’m excited it’s going to happen – and being in Abu Dhabi for the first time makes the game extra special. .

“He wants to take my belt, but I don’t want to give it to him, so it’s bound to be a great fight. I’m sure we’ll both give 100 percent.”

While Bivor says he has tweaked his preparation a bit — such as training with only lefties — he insists he’s just focusing on himself. “Of course, when you have a different opponent, you change your preparation a little bit, but most of the time you just have to work on your own,” said Bivor, who won a match against Saul Canelo in May. Alvarez’s unanimous decision.

“You can’t develop something new to the necessary high level two months before a game, so you’re always better off just focusing on improving yourself.
