Simon Cowell believes his son has rescued him from his workaholic lifestyle.
The 63-year-old music mogul has eight-year-old Eric and Lauren Silverman, and Simon credits his son for helping him overcome his work obsession.
Simon – who has been hugely successful on TV shows like The X Factor and America’s Got Talent – shared: “Before Eric, 99% of my life was work – I was obsessed with it.
“I’ve gotten to the point where it’s all about, ‘If you’re not against this, you’re a loser’ and I no longer enjoy what I’m doing, I’ve been miserable.
“I was obsessed with beating the competition. I took it to a ridiculous level, and I would get so frustrated with those things that I was frustrated.”
Simon admits that his television career has consumed most of his mind.
He told The Sun in Sunday’s paper: “I’m not a wall-beater, but I’d rip my hair out and sit there at 4am and say, ‘What am I going to do?’ – come up with something ridiculous. Ideas, such as the Six Chair Challenge.
“You add new elements, then you change other things, then you change other things, and the next thing you know is, you have this Frankenstein monster.”
Simon now admits that Eric has completely changed his life and his priorities in recent years.
The TV star said: “I’m really unhappy. But now that Eric is around, I don’t work all night anymore.
“If he didn’t show up, God knows what would have happened.
“It’s sad to think about my age, still working until 4am and obsessed with TV ratings.
“Think about it – I can’t handle it.”
