United Arab Emirates: Emirates Global Aluminium, the largest industrial company outside of oil and gas in the United Arab Emirates, welcomes His Excellency Sameh Al Qubaisi, Director of Economic Affairs, Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, to the company’s Al Taweelah facility in Abu Dhabi.
EGA Managing Director Abdulla Kalban and EGA Chief Executive Abdulnasser Bin Kalban received His Excellency and ADDED’s delegation at EGA. During the visit, the delegation was briefed on EGA’s industrial activities in Abu Dhabi and its efforts to further localize the company’s supply chain and further improve Emiratization.
His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, recently launched the Abu Dhabi Industrial Strategy to strengthen Abu Dhabi as a Status as the most competitive industrial hub in the region. The Abu Dhabi government is investing AED 10 billion in transformation plans to more than double the size of manufacturing to AED 172 billion, create 13,600 jobs for skilled workers and support Abu Dhabi’s non-oil exports A 143% increase will contribute to 178.8 billion by 2031.
EGA’s aluminium production at Al Taweelah started in 2009 and the second phase of the smelter started in 2013. EGA has developed an alumina refinery on site, which started production in 2019, a new industrial activity in the UAE.
EGA is the hub for the wider aluminium cluster in Abu Dhabi’s Khalifa Industrial Zone and supplies liquid metal to nearby customers via dedicated hot metal roads.
His Excellency Sameh Al Qubaisi, Director-General for Economic Affairs at ADDED, said: “In order to achieve the ambitious goals of the Abu Dhabi Industrial Strategy, we are focused on working closely with key manufacturers who are creating new jobs, increasing non-oil GDP and exports. We are proud of the role that national economic leaders such as UAE Global Aluminium have played in developing the industrial sector. The visit allowed us to learn about the latest developments at EGA facilities and discuss ways to further strengthen our cooperation to achieve sustainable economic growth” .
Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of EGA, said: “It is a pleasure to welcome His Excellency the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development and his delegation to Al Taweelah, one of the largest industrial bases in the UAE outside of oil and gas. . Nationally, the wider aluminium industry, with EGA at its core, generates more than AED18 billion annually in the economy. For every AED 1 of GDP generated by the aluminium industry, it generates another AED 1.26 elsewhere in the UAE economy. The EGA has a bold ambition to double its absolute contribution to the economies of its host countries by 2040 and to steadily improve the quality of its contributions.
