Covid-19: Canada requires federal workers to be vaccinated-News

[ad_1]

For people who cannot be vaccinated due to medical reasons, testing and other measures will be taken.

Canada said on Friday that it will soon require all federal civil servants and many other workers to be vaccinated against Covid-19 because Canada hopes to increase its already world-leading vaccination rate amid a surge in new infections driven by delta mutations.

The vaccine authorization, which will also include air, train and cruise passengers, was raised two days before the Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s expected election call. It may prove to be a wedge issue in the election. The Conservative Party soon proposed that it crossed the border. NS.

Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs Dominic LeBlanc (Dominic LeBlanc) said that the vaccine requirements for civil servants will be in place by the end of October, and he hopes that state-owned enterprises and other federally regulated employers will follow suit.

“We hope that the Federal Public Service wants to comply with this mandatory requirement,” LeBron said in a press conference. “This is the best way to end the pandemic and keep economic security open.”

He added that people who cannot be vaccinated due to medical reasons will be tested and other measures will be carried out.

Transport Minister Omar Alghabra (Omar Alghabra) said that employees of the federally regulated aviation, rail and maritime sectors and certain passengers will also be required to be vaccinated.

Algabra said at the same press conference: “This includes all commercial air passengers, passengers on inter-provincial trains, and passengers on large sea vessels such as cruise ships.”

Two of Canada’s largest airlines, Air Canada (AC.TO) and Westjet, both welcomed the regulations for employee vaccinations.

There are 300,000 federal civil servants in Canada, and hundreds of thousands of others work for government-owned or regulated companies.

According to a poll conducted by EKOS Research in July, most Canadians support the vaccination certification system, although it is less popular with Conservative voters, and they are less likely to be vaccinated than those who support the ruling Liberal Party.

A spokesperson for Trudeau’s main competitor and Conservative Party leader Erin O’Toole called the vaccine “the most important tool against Covid-19,” but said the mandatory requirements for the vaccine were too excessive.

Spokesperson Matthew Clancy said in an email: “Conservatives support Canadians’ right to determine their health choices.” “Canadians expect to take reasonable measures, such as rapid testing of unvaccinated people.”

This will be more in line with the situation in the United States, where the White House requires all federal workers to be vaccinated or undergo regular testing and wear masks.read more

Many other countries/regions have mandated vaccinations for health care and nursing home staff, and some countries/regions require vaccination certificates to enter public places such as bars and restaurants. Canada is planning to provide vaccine passports for international travel.

Canada is one of the countries with the highest vaccination rates in the world, with more than 82% of eligible people vaccinated once and 71% fully vaccinated. Nevertheless, in the fourth wave of outbreaks promoted by Delta Air Lines, the number of active cases doubled in two weeks.
