Mehta added that the rights of children in the UAE are protected by the Federal Child Rights Law No. 3 of 2016 (known as the “Wadeema Law”). “Parents should be clearly aware that one or more children should not be physically or mentally abused,” he said.
The Wadeema Law stipulates, “Considering Article 2, paragraph 2 of this law, it is prohibited to subject children to torture, violate their physical integrity, or perform any cruel behavior that may affect children’s emotions, psychology, spirit, or morality. Balance.”
What causes child abuse?
Psychologists in the UAE believe that frustration and mismanagement of tasks in the workplace may lead to child abuse because parents believe that they have all the rights to abuse children.
Dr. Asad Sadiq, a psychiatric consultant and managing director of the Health City Psychiatry and Treatment Center, said that one of the factors that cause children to suffer physical violence is the authority behavior of their parents. “You should leave the pressure of the workplace when you enter your home,” Sadiq said. “If parents abuse, the pressure in your workplace may have a serious impact on your children’s learning. Children must not be abused in any way.”
Prateeksha Shetty, a clinical psychologist at RAK Hospital, said that it is a misunderstanding that children need to be physically or mentally abused to learn. She said: “Parents don’t understand that they must treat their children with empathy and there is no room for abuse.”
Child abuse may continue for generations because the child mistakenly believes that physical abuse is appropriate behavior. Shetty added that studies have shown that abusive parents may be narcissists, anti-social, and paranoid, and believe that they are protecting their children.
Consequences for children
Having children to take care of can bring challenges, but it is important to remember that your children are innocent and just want to be loved. If the child is neglected or abused, the abuse may have a lasting negative effect.
These may be physical, and they may or may not be cured. However, the emotional impact of abuse may last a lifetime, impairing the child’s self-confidence, the ability to establish healthy relationships, and the ability to function at home, school, and work.
Dr. Sadiq said that physical violence against children is related to various mental disorders.
“The child is in the learning stage and must be taught how to be loved and loved by others. The child may experience anxiety, depression and many other psychological factors that may bring trouble to life.”
“Children must be loved. Abuse may make children bully others. Some of them may feel anxious and cry often. Ms. Shetty added that social withdrawal and poor academic performance are many other consequences that abused children may suffer.
