PM addresses Abu Dhabi space debate

The address will feature virtual speeches with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Israeli President Isaac Herzog.

The Abu Dhabi Space Debate will host representatives of the world’s fast-growing space industry during its first two-day event on 5-6 December 2022. For new nations, it is a global platform to focus on and explore space capabilities and develop a rapidly growing private sector.

Organizers say the debate will discuss the geopolitical implications of space exploration, regulations and the respective roles of private and public sector players.

The two-day debate is expected to play a role in shaping global cooperation in human space exploration and aims to create an inclusive discourse that will play an important role in advancing international cooperation, standards and policy development in the global space sector.

Emphasizing unprecedented global challenges, Sarah Bint Youssef Amiri, Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology and Chair of the UAE Space Agency and Abu Dhabi Space Debate Committee, said the platform will play a role in forging cooperation, consensus and development in this important area.

Who will be the speaker?

This debate is expected to initiate an open, frank and full exchange and seeks to open, frank exchange and seek solutions and concrete progress for the industry.

Speakers such as William Alberque, Director of Strategy, Technology and Arms Control at the International Institute for Strategic Studies; Dr. George Friedman, Founder of Geopolitical Futures; and Dr. Robin Geiss, Director of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research, will also participate in the debate , there will be about 250 space agency and space sector leaders who will represent nearly 30 countries, including India, the United States, the United Kingdom, South Korea, France, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and more.Also in attendance were private companies such as Thales, Airbus, Northrop Grumman and Amazon with academics, researchers and legislators.

Traditional players and emerging spacefaring nations will be present in this debate, joined by representatives of the Philippines, Portugal, Romania, Rwanda, Norwegian space agencies, and some global players in the field.

According to Ms. Al Amiri, some of the most exciting developments in the field come from young players in the field who are driving the expanding global demand for access to space.
