Stargazers can witness a total lunar eclipse on Tuesday, days after a partial solar eclipse in the UAE
“A lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth and Moon are aligned and the Moon enters Earth’s shadow. In a total lunar eclipse, the entire Moon falls in the darkest part of Earth’s shadow, called the umbra. When the Moon is within the umbra , it turns reddish. Because of this phenomenon, a lunar eclipse is sometimes called a ‘blood moon,'” NASA said of the celestial event.
This will be the last total lunar eclipse for the next three years. The next time will be March 14, 2025.
A total eclipse — the eclipse phase in which the moon is completely in Earth’s shadow — will be visible over western parts of Asia, Australia and New Zealand, North and Central America, Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela and Peru. In Puerto Rico, the moon sets after a total eclipse begins. In Alaska and Hawaii, viewers will have the opportunity to see each phase of the eclipse.
According to NASA, people don’t need any special equipment to view the lunar eclipse, although binoculars or telescopes will enhance the field of view and the red color. Dark environments away from bright lights provide the best viewing conditions.
According to NASA, the partial solar eclipse will start at 4.10am EST and the total eclipse will be from 5.17am to 6.42am EST. A partial lunar eclipse ends when the moon sets.
