Arts & Entertainment: JKC Gallery’s “Tuesday Talks” monthly photography talks scheduled for November 8, 2022

Mercer County Community College James Kerney Campus (JKC) Gallery at 137 North Broad Street in Trenton is proud to present its next “Twosday Talks” on November 8, 2022 from 6:30-7:30pm Photography Exhibition. This month will feature work and presentations by artists Mel Evans and Jackie Neale. The talks will be broadcast live on the Zoom meeting platform.All are invited to jkcgallery.online.

“Twosday Talks” is curated by Heather Palecek and Habiyb Shu’Aib and moderated by JKC Gallery Director Professor Michael Chovan-Dalton.

Chovan-Dalton said: “This will be our last ‘Two Days Talk’ of the semester, and I am delighted to welcome artists Jackie Neale and Mel Evans to share their work and discuss their personal artistic expressions.”

About the artist

Jackie Neal is a Brooklyn and Philadelphia based artist, photographer, imaging specialist, photo director and producer who is inspired by relationships and barriers that disappear/appear once the camera is introduced into the mix. Neale is also a writer focusing on the use of historical, traditional, digital and experimental processes for multimedia documentary portrait projects. Neal is a professor of photography at St. Joseph’s University in New York City and the New York Film Academy, known for his work on social activism and documenting the immigrant experience in the United States and Europe.

Exhibitions of Neil’s photographs have been shown in galleries and museums across the United States. She has appeared on National Public Radio and in the documentary Time Zero: The Last Year of Polaroid Films. Her work has been published in editorial magazines across the United States, online, and in Metropolitan Museum of Art affiliates. Neal recently raised funds to self-publish her photo book “#SubwaySeries.”

Mel Evans Join Twosday Talks with an impressive 40-year history of photojournalism. Evans has photographed nearly every working day of his life, and his goal is to make each photo as interesting and artful as possible. Thousands of Evans images have been published in newspapers, magazines and websites in the United States and around the world.

Evans retired from the Associated Press in 2017 to continue editorial and commercial assignments while continuing to work on new projects that satisfy his creative pursuits and aspirations. For now, he’s focused on taking a serious approach to big-format alternatives and historical processes, in his words, “trying to learn as much as possible from those who came before and respect them.”

Evans is a founding member of the organization monologue collective This is a group of photographers who only use historical simulation processes.

The “Twosday Talks” artist showcase is an extension of the “Third Thursday” series launched by Heather Palecek and Habiyb Shu’Aib as a platform for artists to showcase their work to the Trenton and area community. The events quickly drew audiences from New York to Philadelphia. With the introduction of hybrid virtual and live exhibitions, JKC Galleries now has artists from the US and beyond, with a global audience.
