Emirates super flyweight Fahad Al Bloushi made history by winning his first title series at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on Saturday night.
Al Bloushi defeated Georgian opponent Iraki Shariashvili by unanimous decision (60-54, 59-55, 59-55) in all six rounds.
“I feel like I’m on Cloud Nine,” said Al Bloushi, wearing black and gold shorts emblazoned with the UAE flag.
“I was amazed when I went out and saw all the fans. Usually in the first game of the night, the crowd is smaller, but here the crowd was so loud and calling my name. I feel like a superstar now .”

The local boxer extended his record from 12 fights to 11 wins.
“I made my mom proud, I made my dad proud, I made the country proud. Making this statement to the nation means a lot to me because this is my hometown; it gave me everything and I Just wanted to give the same back to me. This victory belongs to the entire UAE – all seven emirates.”

Al Bloushi’s memorable victory came in the first bout of the night between WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivor and challenger Gilberto Zuldo Ramirez Abu Dhabi culminates in its first world title fight.
The inaugural series is part of a landmark new partnership between Matchroom Boxing and the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi).
