Oil tanker exploded in Acre, Lebanon, killing at least 20 people

The Lebanese Red Cross stated that its team had transported 20 bodies and 7 injured persons to the hospital in Akha.

According to the Lebanese Red Cross, at least 20 people were killed in a tanker explosion in Akha, northern Lebanon.

The explosion occurred early on Sunday, and a video shared on social media showed a fire at the explosion site.

The Lebanese Red Cross said on Twitter: “Our team has sent 20 bodies and more than 7 people injured in the #AKKAR tanker explosion to hospitals in the area.”

Lebanon is currently facing a severe fuel shortage, and there have been a number of tanker hijackings in the past week.

The hospital warned that they lacked fuel and might be forced to shut down.

“The Akha massacre is no different from the port massacre,” former Prime Minister Saad Hariri said on Twitter, referring to the explosion in Beirut port a year ago and calling on Lebanese officials, including the president, to take responsibility. And resigned.

Hariri is a leading Sunni Muslim politician and the main religion in northern Lebanon. He has been openly opposed to Lebanese President Michel Aoun.

The head of the political party founded by Aoun, Jebran Basil, wrote on Twitter, “Tonight, our hearts are with Altariel and Aka’s family.”
