AMC Entertainment plan to launch”soaring Movie theaters in up to 17 U.S. cities, providing businesses with in-person events and conferences.
The large exhibitor said the collaboration with Zoom will launch “sometime in 2023.” CEO Adam Aron said it would allow the chain to tap into a “billion-dollar corporate and other convention market” on a quiet weekday in most theaters. Over the years, exhibitors have had varying degrees of success repurposing theaters during the daytime or slower hours.
“As hybrid jobs become more common in the U.S., Zoom room AMC will enable companies and other entities with dispersed workforces and customer bases to bring together people from different markets simultaneously for cohesive virtual and in-person events and meeting experiences,” said the country’s largest chain.
Users will book three-hour blocks online, choosing their preferred theater and meeting time. AMC and Zoom will provide the necessary equipment. Auditorium size is expected to be between 75 and 150 seats. Additional services, such as food and beverages, movie viewing and concierge-style handling of personalized meeting needs, will be available for an additional fee.
“One of the lessons we’ve learned during the pandemic, when many of us are forced to work remotely, is the importance of reliable, dynamic communication platforms. We’ve also learned that even though we may be far apart, The ability to come together in person is as important as ever,” Aron said. “This creates an entirely new product for companies and meeting planners in major U.S. cities.”
AMC will report its latest earnings tomorrow afternoon. While the timeline is accelerating, these numbers will reflect the apparent lack of new releases in the third quarter.
Earlier this month, AMC announced that members of its AMC Stubs loyalty program would buy $5 movie tickets (plus tax) at all AMC locations on Tuesday through the end of January.
