The former director of a food company in Abu Dhabi has been ordered to pay Dh10,000 in damages after he posted negative comments about the company on Facebook.

Man’s defamatory remarks after resignation damage food supply company’s reputation

The food company has filed a lawsuit against its former employee seeking Dh100,000 for moral and material damages caused by comments posted on its Facebook page that damaged its reputation, official court documents said.

The company lodged a complaint with authorities after reading the defamatory comments and provided evidence to prosecutors.

The company said the food inspector, who works for them, posted negative and malicious comments about the company and its services to damage its reputation with the public.

The man had earlier been convicted in a criminal court after being found guilty of defamation.

Subsequently, the employer filed a civil lawsuit against him, demanding compensation for the losses caused by his malicious remarks.

After hearing from all parties, the Abu Dhabi Court of Family and Civil and Administrative Claims ruled that the defendants must pay the food company Dh10,000.

The man was also told to pay the plaintiff’s legal costs.
