Du partners with Huawei to drive talent development in UAE’s booming telecom sector

Dubai: du from the Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (EITC) and Huawei, a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, announced the successful completion of the 2022 Seeds of the Future programme.

The two-part programme aims to enhance the skillset and accelerate efforts to advance the talent development of Emirati women and Emirati graduates.

Through the Seeds for the Future programme, 28 UAE graduates had the opportunity to visit du offices and gain knowledge in the organisation’s technical field. Attendees can interact with diverse technical subject matter experts from ​​​​and develop key competencies, knowledge and technical skills required by the business world. In the second phase of the programme, 11 female participants interned at du HQ and other retail outlets in Dubai Hills as part of vocational training to help them accelerate their careers.

Ibrahim Nassir, Chief Human Resources and Shared Services Officer at du, said: “du is committed to developing and supporting a strong diverse, equitable and inclusive workforce. Our long-term partnership with Huawei and subsequent education initiatives aligns with du’s change agenda and focus on developing and hiring qualified women and Emirati youth. This allows us to further strengthen the ICT skills development of Emirati youth in the future.

Wang Shunli, Vice President of Huawei Middle East, said: “The cutting-edge technologies of the UAE’s digital transformation plan require advanced ICT skills to fully capitalize on the dividends of the digital economy. The collaboration between industry partners, academia and ICT companies has been highly proven to be effective for Young people provide the expertise to thrive in a dynamic industry. Therefore, we value our partnership with du to nurture these young talents through the Seeds for the Future programme to further develop the UAE’s telecommunications industry.”

du and Huawei have a long history of cooperation, especially in ICT technology and network development. This is the second year in a row that the two entities have partnered to provide industry training opportunities to support DU’s HR department in enhancing its talent transformation process. The programmes have also greatly contributed to the upskilling and knowledge and experience of Emiratis in the latest ICT technologies such as 5G and the cloud.

Launched by Huawei in 2008, the Seeds for the Future program is Huawei’s flagship and long-term global corporate social responsibility (CSR) program. As of June 2021, the program has been implemented in 137 countries and regions, covering 12,000 students in more than 500 universities, and has been recognized by more than 180 heads of state and senior government officials around the world.
