ABU DHABI, 12th November, 2022 (WAM) — The UAE’s participation in the G20 summit to be held in Bali, Indonesia from November 15th to 16th, is part of the UAE’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation and unity, said Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State. action.
During a media briefing on the UAE’s participation in the G20 summit on Friday, Al Sayegh said that the UAE will participate in the G20 summit as one of four guest countries.
He noted that the UAE is participating in the summit for the second time after the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hosted the summit for the first time.
He stressed that the engagement aims to strengthen the UAE’s role within the G20 framework by contributing effectively to all work streams.
“We communicated a directive for small developing countries by engaging in various workstreams, with a focus on sustainability and climate change,” he said.
Sayag said that the G20 summit was first held in 1999 and is an annual gathering of representatives of the world’s major economies. It is of strategic significance to strengthen international economic cooperation. Indonesia’s G20 Presidency has adopted an ambitious plan entitled “Recovering Together… Recovering Stronger”, which identifies three priority issues, namely the global health architecture, digital transformation and sustainable energy transition. “These priority issues are also in line with the UAE’s Future 50 strategy and plans,” he added.
Al Sayegh spoke about the UAE’s goals for high-level engagement, emphasizing the country’s keenness to encourage a balanced, sustainable and full recovery of the global economy.
“The UAE is a global economic hub. Through our tireless efforts, we aim to ensure the sustainability of food and pharmaceutical supply chains through our foreign trade, ports and advanced logistics facilities,” he noted.
Al Sayegh explained that the UAE’s participation in the G20 will strengthen its cooperation with the group’s member countries and solidify the country’s high-level position as a dynamic and ambitious economy.
“The UAE, through the working group, has highlighted its responsible role in the energy market and reviewed its key agenda in the clean energy sector,” he added.
In this regard, Al Sayegh noted that during the engagement workstream, the UAE underscored its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, emphasizing that dialogue and diplomacy are about building confidence, resolving crises, supporting global peace and stability, and strengthening international solidarity.
He said the UAE also underscored the importance of multilateral action, as it believes the G20 summit is at the forefront of an international cooperation platform and plays an active role in supporting the prosperity and cooperation of peoples of all countries.
Al Sayegh said the UAE’s participation in the G20 summit will witness the launch of a series of initiatives related to its work in the climate and health sectors, stressing that the UAE supports the Indonesian presidency to achieve the priorities of this year’s edition.
Al Sayegh also noted that during the G20 coordinators’ meeting, the UAE underscored its commitment to constructive and effective global action in multiple areas, including health, education, digital economy, industry, agriculture, investment and combating financial crime.
He added that the UAE recognizes the importance of a strong and comprehensive multilateral system to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
