Leaders attend East Asia Summit in Cambodia

[ad_1]

U.S. President Joe Biden attended the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Cambodia on Sunday, along with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

All attended the meeting in the party.

The meetings came a day before a much-anticipated meeting between Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Group of 20 summit in Bali.

Other attendees included leaders from Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Japan.

Cambodian leader Hun Sen also called for unity on Sunday, telling delegates that the current global tensions had affected everyone.

The prime minister, who holds the rotating presidency of ASEAN, said at the opening ceremony of the East Asia Summit that it is in the common interest of the world to resolve differences peacefully through cooperation.

The remarks come as regional tensions remain high between the U.S. and China over Taiwan and Beijing’s growing regional ambitions, while Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has disrupted global supply chains, causing energy and food prices to rise well beyond Europe.
