Fernando Alonso For the rest of the year, he was usually outspoken in updating his goals, saying he just wanted to test Aston Martin Now.
The Spaniard and his teammate Esteban Ocon were too close to the Alpine in Saturday’s sprint at the Brazilian Grand Prix and they plotted to drop a potential double point through their clash, now on Sunday lined up towards the back of the field during the game.
No doubt Sprint should have planned more, but infighting in the Alps, not for the first time this season, ended up dominating and hindering their game.
There’s no real suggestion that Ocon and Alonso won’t move on, but this year they did push each other on the track at times, which apparently angered Alonso during the sprint.
In fact, after a clash with him in need of a new front wing, he sarcastically said “thanks to our friends” on the radio – referring to Ocon – and it was clear he was not in the mood for reconciliation after the meeting .
Alonso revealed in an interview with the media that his main goal for the rest of the year is to actually test the Aston Martin in Abu Dhabi after the final race of the season:
“This is the penultimate race. I just want to go to Abu Dhabi to test green cars,” Alonso said. “So that’s my main goal now.”
With Alpine and McLaren battling for fourth in the constructors’ championship, these comments are not particularly wanted by the Enstone-based team.
Of course, Fernando is speaking at an exciting time, and he’s certainly still looking to fuel his current squad by helping them through P4.
He and Ocon have some work to do today before trying to score in the standings, and Otmar Safnaul will just want his two drivers to stay clean during the 71 laps of the race.
